German silver is an alloy made from nickel with copper and, in some cases, zinc is also added to the mixture. Many of our belts are made from this combination, and nearly all are predominately silver with some gold added. This two-tone color combination is particularly common for trophy belt buckles which, at the center, depict a horse or bull rider and are given to rodeo competition winners in these categories. But not all German silver belt buckles we carry have a trophy style, and many are simply a solid metal with etched details and others even have some black enamel or onyx stone inlay to appear more southwestern.
